As an art historian I have a deep love for old process of print making. I chose to make wood cut and linoleum block prints on t-shirts to stand out against all of the screen printers and sublimators out there.
My name is Paul Brenin. I have a Bachelors of Fine Arts in Graphic Design and a Bachelors in Art History, Fine Art with a concentration in lithographic print was my minor.
My work is a personal self exploration of queer identity and its sometimes complex relationship with Christianity and conservative family values through visual metaphor inspired by tarot iconography and early Christian art work. I have also began to lean into a snarky sense of humor with a millennial meme sensibility.
Though often associated as anti-Christian, tarot illustrates the journey of one’s life to the understanding of their place in the world using stories borrowed from Christian parables. It is through this misunderstood meaning that I find tension worth exploring as it relates to queer identity in the Christian world.
